GBARPOLU COUNTY PROFILE| GBARPOLU MONTHLY REPORTS|
Gbarpolu County Profile

Created in 2003, Gbarpolu is the newest of the fifteen counties of Liberia. It was formerly part of Lofa County, referred to as Lower Lofa and consisted of two Statutory Districts of Gbarma composed of Gbarma and Kongba, and Bopolu comprised Bopolu, Belle and Bokomu. After gaining county status, Gbarma and Kongba became two separate administrative districts, while Bopolu, Belle and Bokomu became administrative districts correspondingly. Most recently, Gounwolaila, a sub-political division (clan) of the county, was also created as administrative district. Bopolu City is the administrative seat of the county. Gbarpolu is largely concentrated in the commerce of gold, diamond and timbers.

According to the 2008 National Population and Housing Census, the population of this northwestern county is provided by sex in the Table below.

The county is further divided into districts as has been mentioned in the introduction above. The Table below shows the population by district and sex.
