LISGIS NEWS

WELCOME TO LISGIS
THE DIRECTOR GENERAL’S MESSAGE FOR 2017

My fellow users and consumers of official statistics, I bring you heartfelt Season and New year greetings on behalf of the Board of Directors, Management, and staff of LISGIS where we continue to strive through the help of government and partners to produce credible and reliable data.

I also extend Happy New Year Greetings to the President, her excellency, Madam Ellen Johnson Sirleaf for the immense confidence reposed in our work and the continuous support her government provides the Statistics House of Liberia for the production and dissemination of statistics. Special New Year greetings also to the Vice President, His excellency, Amb. Joseph Nyumah Boikai, for his implicit confidence in the Statistics House of Liberia as well as his unflinching support rendered to LISGIS. I pause to say, Thank You.

The Year 2016 was challenging but successful with the kick-off of the 2016 Household Income and Expenditure Survey, which ran the whole year through and the release of the seven-months data of the 2014 HIES. The journey was tough but today, we can safely say that the HIES was officially a success as field staffs are less than two weeks to a wrap up of what we saw as an uphill task. Let me extend thanks to all the hard working field staffs who brave the storm and made it through the bushes and impossible roads just to achieve this important milestone. This is an important for one particular reason. In 2014, when we embarked upon the conduct of the HIES for the first time since 1964, we collected 7 months of field data and then had to stop due to the rapid spread of the Ebola virus then. The data however was analyzed and findings were gathered, which gave us a screw hole picture of poverty, unemployment and other indicators in our economy. Today I am excited as we wait to see the clean up and release of a full twelve months’ data, which would give a measure against the 7months HIES data earlier released. It’s however worthy to state that all of this would not have been possible without the Government of Liberia and Partners: World Bank, EU, SIDA, AfDB,USAID.

As we look with hope into a brand new 2017, we are optimistic that statistics produced will be enhanced at all levels. We believe that with greater support and consolidation in the harmonization of our work, LISGIS can do greater service to the nation. I believe in my opinion that, “No great Nation was ever built without their reliance on credible and reliable statistics. Liberia should be no exception as we strive to be great. And this is only possible if all of us can come together with hands on deck to make it happen.

Again, I [...Read more]
