NSDS Briefing Notes

The National Strategy for the Development of Statistics (NSDS) in Liberia is a framework aimed at rebuilding statistical capacity and strengthening coordination across the line ministries and agencies for collecting data.

It also aimed to establish a coordinated national statistical system that effectively produces and disseminates accurate and timely data that are relevant to and supportive of the national development agenda.

-    The NSDS also in collaboration with the Department of Dissemination  coordinate in the implementation of the following in addition to other tasks, which include but not limited to :
  • Publishing  an Annual  Statistical Bulletin;
  • Develop and maintain an enhanced National Statistical System dedicated website for publication of data and statistics from all government ministries and agencies;
  • Formulating data access and dissemination policies that promote information  flows within the national statistical system and its stakeholders; and Developing and promoting a national database platform at LISGIS, link to sectors, ministries and agencies in the statistical system, which enhances information exchange and the regular updating of the database.

The NSDS has four (4) committees which include the following:
1.    Technical Committee
2.    Donor Committee
3.    Data Users/Producers Committee
4.    Advocacy Committee

KEY INDICATORS
- External Trade Published on Dec 13th, 2013
 
The section External Trade relied mainly on data obtained from the Customs and Excise entry bills and declarations in ASYCUDA files captured at customs entry points throughout the country and other notable Government Institutions responsible for export documentation.

- Labor Force Survey Published on Dec 21st, 2013
The Objective of the Labor Force Survey is to


  • Determine the size and composition of the labor force, classified by key variables such as sex, age. County, education, skill levels, institutional sector, industry, occupation and employment status

  • Provide details on the various components of the labor force (the employed, unemployed, with special information on those who are underemployed)

- LDHS Published on Dec 21st, 2013
The Objective of the LDHS is to

  • Provide data on education, fertility, family planning, child and maternal mortality, sexual behavior, maternal health, nutrition, child health, malaria prevention, HIV/AIDS knowledge and behavior
  • Measure MDGs other indicators
  • Obtain a population-based estimate of HIV prevalence among adults age 15-49
